We have great news to share,
The New Mexico Public School Facilities Authority has completed its review of the Bernalillo Public School District's Preventive Maintenance Plan and awarded it an Outstanding rating, meeting all 44 of 44 statute-required performance elements. That's a perfect score, with no deficiencies and no corrective actions needed. These elements included PM Plans 20/20, Staff Development 5/5, Safety Plans 7/7, Contractor Oversight 8/8 and the Facilities Master Plan 4/4.
To our voters — this is what your investment looks like.
When you cast your vote to support the general obligation bond, you placed your trust in this District to use those dollars wisely. This Outstanding rating is tangible proof that trust is being honored. Every dollar from the bond is going toward exactly what you'd hope for: safer buildings, better-maintained facilities, and a maintenance program the state recognizes as a model for others to follow. It's a rare and welcome thing to see this clear a return on a community investment — and we wanted you to see it too.
None of this happens without dedicated people behind it — and this is exactly where your bond dollars are put to work. Congratulations and heartfelt thanks to Facilities Manager Wally Gurule and our entire facilities and maintenance team, whose planning, training, and daily follow-through turn voter investment into real results: schools that are safer, better maintained, and recognized statewide for excellence. This is the return every taxpayer hopes for.

Cuando emitieron su voto para apoyar el bono de obligación general, depositaron su confianza en este Distrito para que usara esos fondos con sabiduría. Esta calificación de Sobresaliente es prueba tangible de que esa confianza está siendo honrada. Cada dólar del bono se está destinando exactamente a lo que esperarían: edificios más seguros, instalaciones mejor mantenidas y un programa de mantenimiento que el estado reconoce como un modelo a seguir para otros. Es algo poco común y muy bienvenido ver un retorno tan claro sobre una inversión comunitaria, y queríamos que ustedes también lo vieran.
Nada de esto ocurre sin personas dedicadas detrás — y aquí es exactamente donde se ponen a trabajar los fondos de su bono. Felicitaciones y un agradecimiento sincero al Gerente de Instalaciones, Wally Gurule, y a todo nuestro equipo de instalaciones y mantenimiento, cuya planificación, capacitación y seguimiento diario convierten la inversión de los votantes en resultados reales: escuelas más seguras, mejor mantenidas y reconocidas a nivel estatal por su excelencia. Bernalillo Public Schools is proud to recognize Brisa Castilla Cobos of Bernalillo High School for being selected as a recipient of the 2025/2026 New Mexico School Boards Association (NMSBA) Scholarship Award! 🌟
The NMSBA announced its scholarship recipients during the School Law Conference, honoring 24 outstanding graduating seniors from across New Mexico with a $1,000 scholarship to support their higher education journeys.

Las Escuelas Públicas de Bernalillo se enorgullecen en reconocer a Brisa Castilla Cobos de Bernalillo High School por haber sido seleccionada como beneficiaria de la Beca 2025/2026 de la Asociación de Juntas Escolares de Nuevo México (NMSBA). 🌟
La NMSBA anunció a los ganadores de sus becas durante la Conferencia de Derecho Escolar, otorgando a 24 estudiantes sobresalientes que se gradúan este año una beca de $1,000 para apoyar sus estudios superiores.

💙 An Update on Lexi from W.D. Carroll at THE DISTRICT of Bernalillo Public Schools 💙
Our BPS family continues to keep Lexi and her loved ones in our hearts as she courageously battles through a difficult recovery following her stem cell transplant.
According to her family, Lexi has experienced several serious complications and is currently receiving treatment for a liver condition known as VOD. Her medical team is closely monitoring her health, and while there are many challenging days filled with pain and fatigue, Lexi continues to fight with incredible strength surrounded by the love of her family and the care of her medical team.
For the past several weeks, Lexi's family has been staying in Colorado while she receives critical medical treatment. As they remain focused on supporting Lexi every step of the way, the financial burden of being away from home for an extended period has become increasingly difficult.
We are asking our BPS community to come together and help support Lexi's family during this time. Donations in the form of food delivery gift cards or monetary contributions to assist with meal expenses are greatly appreciated. Every act of kindness, no matter the size, helps ease the burden and allows the family to focus on what matters most—being by Lexi's side.
Thank you for continuing to keep Lexi and her family in your thoughts, prayers, and encouragement. The strength of our BPS community shines brightest when we come together to support one another. 💙💛

We want to inform you of a situation that occurred on campus today involving a bat that was seen flying inside a portion of the school building. The area was immediately secured, and district maintenance and appropriate personnel responded promptly to safely remove the bat from the campus.
At this time, there is no indication that any students or staff had direct contact with the animal. As a precaution, we followed recommended health and safety procedures and thoroughly inspected the affected area before resuming normal activities.
The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority. Encounters with wildlife can occasionally occur, especially during warmer seasons, and we are continuing to monitor the campus to help prevent future incidents.

Estimadas familias de la Escuela Primaria Bernalillo,
Queremos informarles sobre una situación que ocurrió hoy en el campus relacionada con un murciélago que fue visto volando dentro de una parte del edificio escolar. El área fue asegurada de inmediato, y el personal correspondiente y mantenimiento del distrito respondieron rápidamente para retirar al murciélago de manera segura del campus.
En este momento, no hay indicios de que algún estudiante o miembro del personal haya tenido contacto directo con el animal. Como medida de precaución, seguimos los procedimientos recomendados de salud y seguridad y realizamos una inspección completa del área afectada antes de reanudar las actividades normales.
La seguridad y el bienestar de nuestros estudiantes y personal siguen siendo nuestra máxima prioridad. Los encuentros con vida silvestre pueden ocurrir ocasionalmente, especialmente durante las temporadas más cálidas, y continuaremos monitoreando el campus para ayudar a prevenir futuros incidentes.
