Dr. Ralph Friedly, Superintendent
Dr. Ralph Friedly received his BA in History and English from Rutgers University in 1965 and began his career in education as an elementary teacher in East Brunswick, New Jersey. In 1968 he received his Masters Degree in Elementary Curriculum and Instruction from Rutgers and moved to Arizona where he taught Navajo children for two years at Pinon and Rock Point. He moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1970 for a year of full time study at Harvard Graduate School of Education earning a Certificate of Advanced Study in Curriculum and Supervision in 1971 and was then employed by Duxbury Public Schools, in Duxbury, Massachusetts as Assistant Principal for one year, then Principal for ten years at Alden School, including a sabbatical for a year of full time Doctoral study at Arizona State University. In 1982 he returned to Arizona to become Principal in Washington School District where he served as Principal of Sahuaro School and later, Acacia School, receiving his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Arizona State in 1986. In 1996 he traveled overseas to work for the American School of Kuwait, serving as Elementary Principal for two years, then Middle School Principal for two years. In 2000 Dr. Friedly returned to Arizona to accept the position of Superintendent of Red Mesa Unified School District on the Navajo Reservation, then in 2003 traveled overseas again to become Headmaster and General Director of Isikkent School in Izmir, Turkey. He returned to the US in 2006 to become Superintendent of Schools of Dulce Independent Schools, Dulce, New Mexico. After retiring for one year he returned to New Mexico to accept his present position of Superintendent of Schools for Bernalillo Public Schools in Bernalillo, New Mexico.
