The AFAC is a multi-agency facility, serving the Albuquerque Metropolitan area.  The center combines emergency medical staff, victim advocates, legal and financial assistance along with law enforcement and prosecution in a unique system designed to dramatically decrease the stress and trauma often placed on victims.

The mission of La Buena Vida, Inc. is to strengthen children, youth and families through the delivery of a wide array of educational and treatment services. La Buena Vida, Inc. recognizes that in order to maximize the use of services, collaboration with other groups, agencies and individuals who do or can impact the well being of the individual and family is essential.

La Buena Vida offers the following services:

24-Hour Crisis Line (505) 867-2383 (8am to 7:00pm) (505) 269-7596 (7pm - 8:00am) - Counselors are available to help in crisis situations 24-hours per day, seven days per week.

Clinical Evaluations - Evaluations provide an in depth view of what clients are presenting for and recommendations for treatment.

Mental Health Counseling - Individual, couple, family, and group counseling to understand and resolve emotional and psychological problems and conflicts.

Substance Abuse Counseling - Individual, family and group counseling for individuals addicted to alcohol or drugs or at-risk of becoming addicted.

Art Therapy - Uses art making, which is a non-verbal process, to help individuals make sense of difficult life experiences.  It has been known to be effective with children, adolescents, and adults.

Case Management - Link clients and advocate on their behalf for needed resources and coordinate services between outside agencies and education institutions.

Parent Education Program - An 8 Week program based upon a unique approach incorporating focused on improving relationships, positive discipline and building on strengths.  

Psychiatric Services - Evaluation and medication are available for those who would benefit from these services.

Psychosocial Rehabilitation - Day treatment program for adults with severe and disabling mental illness.  The program focuses on living and social skill development in order to maintain individuals in the community and prevent hospitalization.

Consultation and Education - Educational programs related to mental health and substance abuse are available to the general public, to schools, and to community organizations.  Individualized consultations are also available to community groups to enhance their knowledge of mental health issues and/or substance abuse problems.

Special Groups:

Gender Specific Groups - Therapy groups are held specifically for men and for women. These groups will address gender specific issues as well as substance abuse, anger management and mental health.

DWI Group - DWI group therapy addresses specific issues related to those clients who have received a DWI. Other issues addressed in this group include substance abuse, anger management and relapse prevention.

Substance Abuse Groups - These groups will address abuse and dependency of drugs and alcohol. Strategies for relapse preventions are also covered in these groups.

Anger-Management Groups - Clients who have concerns about how anger is affecting their lives may benefit from anger-management topics covered in this group.

Life Skills Groups- These groups may include topics such as parenting, job skills and socializations skills

United Way of Central New Mexico   - The United Way of Central New Mexico serves the people of Bernalillo, Sandoval, Torrance and Valencia counties who are least able to help themselves. The purpose of the United Way has always been to build a stronger community by making it easier for neighbors to help each other.

UNITED WAY 2-1-1 provides free information and referrals to health and human services, government agencies, and community based organizations.

United Way 2-1-1 is a comprehensive source for information, better connecting our community and increasing self-sufficiency. By providing appropriate referrals to available human services, teachers, individuals, children and families are able to access resources within our community.

 

  • Basic Human Needs Resources: food pantries, clothing banks, shelters, rent assistance.
  • Physical and Mental Health Resources: Medicaid and Medicare, children's health programs,counseling, crisis intervention services, drug and alcohol intervention and rehabilitation.
  • Senior Services and Disability Programs: adult day care, Meals on Wheels, respite care, transportation, case management.
  • Children, Youth and Family Resources: child care, Head Start, youth at risk, mentoring programs, protective services, education based programs, family resource centers.
  • Abuse, Neglect and Sexual Assault Resources: domestic violence shelters, violence intervention, protective services, crisis response, victim support services, legal aid.
